Here's how it works:

  • You send us your artwork by one of the following methods.
    • If you send us the actual artwork, we will capture the image on our high-resolution flatbed scanners (if possible). Paintings on stretchers and certain other forms of composition can sometimes be scanned, but may instead need to be captured by photography, using a medium-format studio camera. The resulting negatives are then scanned on a high-resolution film scanner. (Note that this option allows us to adjust the colors most accurately, since we can compare with the original art.)
    • You can send us a digital image on a CD or DVD or upload via FTP. (Instructions for use of our FTP site can be found at this link.) We prefer files in PNG, TIFF, or PSD formats, but can accept most other formats.
    • If your artwork has been professionally photographed, you can send us the positive or negative film for scanning.

  • We digitally adjust the image and prepare to print.
    • Although measuring equipment is employed in this process, many decisions are "judgment calls", requiring trial-and-error adjustments and test prints.
    • A proof includes two images on the medium which you chose for your reproductions: one is a representation of the complete artwork, reduced in size to about half a sheet of letter paper, and the other is a small portion of the artwork reproduced at full scale.
    • Depending upon your submission method, we produce either Basic Proofs or Color-match Proofs:
      • Basic Proofs - from your electronic or film submissions
      • Color-Match Proofs - from scans that we generate from your original artwork
    • We strongly urge you to order a proof of each artwork submitted for reproduction to make sure that you'll be delighted with the initial production run.
    • Once the proof is completed, we send it (and the original artwork) to you for approval.

  • Following your approval, we print according to your wishes and ship your job back to you.
    • There is no minimum quantity per order, either in terms of number of prints or dollar amount.
    • A typical scanning and proofing job generally requires about a week in-house. For initial printing and reprint orders on media we stock on-hand, turnaround is generaly three or four days.

  • Please remember that we consider our customers not only our final inspector, but our most effective marketing spokesperson. It is extremely important to us that all clients are absolutely delighted with our work. This is our guarantee to you!
    • If you plan to apply to any shows requiring online image submission through Zapplication.org, just let us know and we will be happy to supply you with files in the appropriate format at no charge.
    • If you'd like a copy of your image file for any reason, just let us know and we'll be happy to include it with your job at no additional cost.

Media used for your production:

We utilize select papers from several manufacturers. All of the media employed are archival, buffered and acid-free, and are expected to maintain image quality in excess of a hundred years. They fall into three price categories:

  • Economy Fine Art papers, which include:
    • "Watercolor" style papers, which are textured, lignin-free papers, made from alpha cellulose fiber (up to 310 gsm in weight and 19 mils thick)
    • Smooth Fine Art paper (100% cotton rag, warm white, 250 gsm, 13.5 mil)
  • Standard Fine Art papers, all of which are 100% cotton rag and warm white in color. They are 225-300 gsm and 15-19 mil and include:
    • Velvet Fine Art papers (midway in surface characteristics between smooth and textured) by Somerset and Epson
    • Textured Fine Art papers by Crane, Epson, and PremierArt
  • Specialty Fine Art media,
    • Heavyweight Epson UltraSmooth Fine Art paper (100% cotton rag, 500 gsm, 29 mil)
    • Heavyweight Somerset Velvet Fine Art paper (100% cotton rag, 505 gsm, 36 mil)
    • Heavyweight Crane Textured Fine Art paper (100% cotton rag, 425 gsm, 27 mil)
    • Epson Exhibition Fiber paper (fiber paper, similar in appearance to air-dried F surface glossy photographic paper, 325 gsm, 13 mil). This paper works extremely well for computer-based and computer-enhanced artwork.
    • Canvas (stretchable, polyester/cotton blend, 350-430 gsm, 19-22 mil) by Epson, LexJet, and PremierArt. Please note that we coat all our canvas prints with a stretchable giclée varnish, for additional protection against abrasion, UV, and water damage. There is no additional charge for the giclée coating for your canvas prints; the coating is optional for paper prints, and available for a small charge.
